LOOM TO LABEL with Laura Miles
Maheshwar, India, 29 January–6 February 2027

Join us this winter for a journey to the heart of handwoven textiles. An intimate trip to Maheshwar, India, exploring cloth from loom to finished garment and spending time with the weavers, makers and communities whose knowledge and skill keep these extraordinary textile traditions alive.
We’ll meet in Mumbai before taking a short internal flight to Indore, followed by a two-hour drive to the beautiful Ahilya Fort in Maheshwar. Set on the banks of the River Narmada and still home to the Holkar family, the fort will be our base for the first part of the journey.
From here, we’ll spend time with the weaving communities I work with, seeing first-hand how the cloth is made and meeting the people whose extraordinary skills are at the heart of Woven. We’ll also visit Kumbaya, the charitable cooperative where my clothing is made, giving you an insight into the journey from handwoven cloth to finished garment.
We’ll dedicate a day to visiting a nearby block-printing workshop, learning about another of the region’s rich textile traditions and seeing the process from start to finish.
Our journey will end with two nights in Mumbai, where we’ll experience a different side of contemporary Indian design, exploring the city’s shops, discovering emerging Indian designers and leaving some time for a little shopping of our own.
What makes this experience unique is the access. Few designers can open the doors to the relationships and processes that shape their own work. This journey offers a rare opportunity to see Indian textiles not as finished products, but as a living creative process.
This trip is perfect for anyone with a passion for handmade textiles, as well as those interested in sustainable and fair trade fashion. There will be opportunities to develop your own textile ideas and to gain a deeper understanding of the process of working directly with artisans in India, from the development of a cloth through to the finished garment. It’s a chance to experience first-hand the skills, knowledge and time behind handmade production, and to better understand what thoughtful, responsible fashion can look like in practice.
